£200K Banksy For Band

A Banksy painting  worth £200k arrived outside Simon Duncan’s west London home inside a battered old van last week, sent unexpectedly to Duncan, a 41-year-old web developer, as compensation for the world-renowned graffiti artist having coincidentally chosen the name of Duncan’s band as the title for his film, Exit Through the Gift Shop.

“I am a drummer in a band that was called Exit Through the Gift Shop that I started with friends 18 months before I turned 40. It was a kind of midlife crisis, but we are still going, with a different line-up, and it has become a bit more serious,” said Duncan, who agreed to change his band’s name to Brace Yourself in an arrangement with Banksy.

“We had these hilarious emails from someone saying he was Banksy, but we didn’t know if they were genuine,” said Duncan. “Then a scruffy white van arrived. The driver had no idea what he was carrying.”

The band plan to unveil their new name and backdrop, which shows the grim reaper riding a dodgem car, at a London gig this week.

“When we saw the painting we could not believe it,” said Duncan. “It is the size of a double bed, for a start. We had to insure it, so a man from Sotheby’s came over to see it in my loft. He said to me, ‘This is surreal. I have just been valuing an 18th-century portrait in a stately home, but it is not as valuable as this.’”

The band have put the painting in storage at Sotheby’s and will perform in front of a full-size copy.

Regularly drawing influence from workwear and military silhouettes and methods of construction, the Naval Artillery Jacket is the perfect spring / summer choice for those who like to keep their mid-year style slim and lightweight, and is based on a Union naval officers jacket worn aboard the first ironclad warships used during the American Civil War.

Alife 'Go Green' Tee

On Thursday April 15th, ALIFE hosted the first “ALIFE SESSIONS” of the 2010 season in its Rivington Street courtyard.
Titled “GO GREEN”, this time Alife was honoured to present CYPRESS HILL and NINJASONIK as performing guests and FISCHERSPOONER as guest DJs. As an added bonus, Ricky Powell kept things interesting as the evening’s MC, while DJ NIRE entertained between acts.
The event celebrated 420, the date of both Ninjasonik and Cypress Hill’s new album releases, among other things.
As usual, Alife created a themed atmosphere: Green walls, green grass and a commissioned two-story tall mural that reflected the spirit of 420. In addition, and in line with Alife Session tradition, a commemorative “concert” T-shirt was also created.

Supreme NYC Book: AKA

Allen AKA writes...A long while back our studio was invited by West and James to assist with some shots needed for the Supreme book. After many, many months of waiting for it to be released, it finally dropped yesterday. Featuring shots by fellow bloggers Yuri Shibuya and Jamil GS, the book is a complete retrospect of Supreme’s 16 year history and includes 304 pages of essays, interviews, photos and more detailing all the art, design and culture that define Supreme.

The book is now available at Supreme stores worldwide, with a mass market edition (sans slip case and bonus content) being made available on Amazon on April 27th.

A long while back I posted about some studio work we’d been doing. The more observant people out there might have noticed that the stuff in the background we were shooting was actually a Rammellzee canvas from the Supreme shop. Here’s a couple more shots we did, as well as some more behind the scenes stuff.

Malcom McClaren RIP

Malcolm McClaren was buried at Highgate Cemetery today. There was a procession through Camden around 1pm, his son Joe had asked that people observe one minute of mayhem at 12noon, "Put on your favourite records and let it RIP!" We think a fitting tribute to a legend.

Creep Tailored Trucker Jacket

Spring’s here. We repeat, spring is here – not summer – so save your shorts for a couple of months down the line. We’ve seen far too many folks about who’ve failed to realise that sunny doesn’t always equal hot. What you need is a light jacket like this Creep number. Design-wise there’s a lot in common with denim jackets, but this won’t look like you’ve raided your little sisters wardrobe when you wear it an unfortunate side effect of the cropped shape of most denim jackets.  A bargain at £145 take a closer look at it here on ASOS
